Approach


Iron Mountain Trail: Drive on Highway 20. At a point 0.5 mile west of Tombstone Pass, turn south onto Road 15 (Deer Creek Road). Follow this road 0.3 mile to the Iron Mountain Trailhead.

Route Description


This trail is steeper, but quite a bit shorter, than the Cone Peak Trail. Start at the Iron Mountain Trailhead and follow the trail north, then northwest, 1 mile to a trail junction. Take a right and follow the trail to another junction. Take another right and follow the trail to the summit. Beware of wind and cliffs at the summit. There has already been one fatality from falling off cliffs. The views from the summit include the Western and High Cascades.
Elevation Gain: 1385 feet.
Round-Trip Distance: 3.4 miles.
