Hocheiser (and Tauernmoossee) from Sonnblickkees

Hocheiser is a well known ski tour (starting from the Stubachtal). The mountain is part of the Glockner Group, but the mountain is close to the Granatspitz Group.

First climbed by R. Ißler and J. Brandtner on Aug. 15th. 1871; first Winterascent by J. Reiff in 1896 from Gr. Grießkogel

Hocheiser is an an impressive mountain from Rudolfshütte. The summit offers perfect views to Grosses Wiesbachhorn, Großglockner, Grossvenediger etc.

Getting There

Hocheiser can be climbed either from Enzinger Boden (Stubachtal - Granatspitz Group) or quite seldom from Kaprun Valley.

The approach to Stubachtal - a side valley of Salzachtal - turn southwards in Uttendorf (Uttendorf can be reached via Zell am See or Paß Thurn and Mittersill)

Hocheiser is located within the Hohe Tauern National Park.

When To Climb

Winter & Spring

The mountain can be climbed nearly all over the year.
For ski touring the best months are March to May - depending on snow cover and avalanche danger.

Summer

Late June to early September

Routes Overview

In Summer easy ascents lead from Kaprun Valley (from Heidnische Kirche) and Stubach Valley to Hocheiser

Skitour from Tauernmoossee

The skitour ascent starts either at Rudolfshütte (with a ski descent to Tauernmoossee) or at Enzinger Boden (via the old and closed construction road to Tauernmoossee).
Follow Schwarzkarlbach (north of Tauernmoossee) to Schwarzkar or Mitterberg - continue to eastwards to altitude mark 2883m. Turn southwards via Oberes Hocheiserkees towards the summit.
