Overview

A nice valley-route. Easily climbable, with a ridge that might be a bit steep for non experienced climbers. If you have ever been in high mountains it won't mean any difficulty.
Beautiful views, no crowd, perfect for starting mountaineering or closing your holiday with it.

Getting There

The mountain is located in the eastern part of the Austrian Alps. The easiest to start our route is in Mallnitz at about 20 minutes from Obervellach and at about 1-1.5 hours from Lienz or Spittal / by car/.

Route Description

This route starts at Mallnitz like Nr. 138 via Hindenburghöhe. The number of this route is 137 and it joins route Nr. 138 on the western ridge of Liesgelespitze after Mindener Hütte. This is the only one part of the routes to Liesgele which is a bit steep on both sides, but it's also easily climbable.
When you nearly left Mallnitz there will be a sign on the right showing the way to Liesgele. That is route Nr. 138. But it is important, if you want to climb Liesgele on route Nr. 137 that you have to keep left when you arriwe to the crossroads where route Nr. 138 goes right and route Nr. 137 keeps going straight on the left-hand side.

The truth is that road Nr. 137 doesn't hit Mindener Hütte, it is about a 200 metres by-pass from where route Nr. 137 joins route Nr. 138.

Route Nr. 137 goes in a beautiful valley near a little creek. That might be the only difficulty. The creek often wets the road so it is sometimes really slipery.

(When I last climbed Liesgele I descended on route Nr. 137. The path was so wet and slipery that I sometimes nearly tumbled down, so it is clever to use this way for going up, not for coming down!)

Essential Gear

Nothing extra in summer. Crampons and ice axe needed in winter as usual. For non-experienced ropes might also be useful in winter.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
