Route Description

The starting point for this route is the summit of Khatoon Bargah Peak. Click for a link to Khatoon Bargah route page.

This route describes a ridge-top traverse from the summit of Khatoon Bargah to Kharsang Kooh #2, #1 and down to the 3690 m saddle south of North Kharsang Kooh. Total distance is around 2 Km.

From the summit of Khatoon Bargah, the summit of Kharsang Kooh #2 will be in good view. Follow the ridge-top west to reach the base of #2. To avoid its southern wall, approach #2 from the north. Some hand and foot climbing will get you to the top.

From the base of #2, you can hike down easy slopes to the 3870 m saddle and then up the easy eastern slopes of #1 to reach its top.

Continuing down to the 3690 m saddle will require some hand and foot climbing. The northern slopes directly below the summit of #1 are wall-like and should be avoided. The best option might be to follow the top of a northwestern ridgeline (See photo).

Essential Gear

In early season (late June/early July) crampons may come in handy. We did actually use them.
