One day Colchuck

Colchuck Glacier
The morning hike began about 5:00AM under partly cloudy skies. We commented to each other how good it felt to get started on a climb we've talked about for years...like so many other plans. Weather forecasts were improving, but not perfect. It rained so hard on I-5 Sunday night on the way over we wondered how Monday would go...turns out, not bad at all. We were walking on snow long before we got to Colchuck Lake, soft too. Really had to be careful around logs and rocks when you would post hole unexpectedly. We made the Lake by 7:30AM where we found a group of 5 in tents heading up the Glacier Route too. We arrived at the Col by 10:30AM.

Traverse, Summit, Glisade and out.

Looking at traverse to summit
From the Dragontail/Colchuck Col we just traversed to the summit in clouds. Never did see too far away, but satisfied to have made the summit. We got some views of Dragontail, which we had discussed summiting too, but the snow just got too soft and we aren't 25 years old anymore, so we'll save that trip for later. Summit at Noon, glisaded much of the Glacier down, Car by 6:00, Sausage and Beer in Leavenworth, home by 11:00PM. I will have to conclude with the reference to the best display of Trillums I have ever seen. Once down below the snow, the last couple of miles were amazing. We hit the peak of flowers too. Rainbow to start the trip, a summit, Trillums on the way out with another Cascade Climb with my good friend Nick. Great day!!!
