Overview

Solid granite makes up the entirety of the east ridge. Granite routes in oregon are gems to be treasured. I found this scramble to be a very fun alternative to the typical central oregon choss.
Sawtooth East Ridge

Getting There

See the "Getting There" section of the main page for directions to the trailhead. Another possible approach is to climb Cowhorn Mountain via the pacific crest trail and continue cross country to Sawtooth. This approach route brings you directly to the base of the east ridge.

Route Description

From the Sawtooth Mtn trail: Continue on the trail until summit crags are in view. Basically you want to travel cross country to traverse under the south face heading towards the east side of the mtn. Once on the east side you will likely see various inviting 3rd class routes. Theres lots of fun scrambling to be had here on large granite boulders and flakes. Scramble up towards the ridge crest. Towards the top the route narrows greatly until a series of spires is reached. These can be passed by traversing underneath them on the right. Some more scrambling along the ridgeline will bring you to the summit.

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
