25 metres above sea level and on top of the world!

Good afternoon to you all from a very wet and grey Bristol in the UK!

An unfinished esoteric but most exciting filming and climbing project fell neatly into place in a delightfully random way in late September when I found myself stood on the stunning Broadhaven Beach at Pembroke in South West Wales. A number of worthy recruits to the cause assembled to head out to the prominent and most alluring Church Rock sea stack, situated about 400 metres offshore. So with an armada of incongruous vessels including 3 people crammed onto a 2 seat sit-on kayak and my majestic Explorer 2 dinghy, we set sail into the Celtic sea...

Remarkably and much to our suprise Church Rock was reached safely and no-one drowned, drifted half-way to America or required rescuing by a Sea King Heli. Consequently most of the recorded routes were climbed including the photogenic "crag classic" called "Man Underboard" which we filmed before putting up 3 new routes so a grand day out was had by all. Anyway the entertainment was duly recorded so for anyone interested in viewing a short HD film of this esoteric sea-stack dinghy madness then please use the embedded link:

if you wish to sample the full High Def experience and your computer has enough va va voom, you should be able to change the "Quality" icon to at least 720p HD in the bottom right hand corner on the You Tube screen. Anyway all constructive feedback or comments welcome and hopefully it will inspire a 1 or 2 folks to visit this beautiful area, get their water wings on, blow up their inflatables and tally forth into the sea!

Cheers, happy + safe climbing and all unauthorised viewings welcome :-)

Dave

Disclaimer: Do not try this at home or at Broadhaven beach and under no circumstances attempt to reach Church Rock unless supervised by adults and suitably equipped with an £11.99 dinghy from Amazon...

Great stuff

Nice video,

I've always fancied doing that but utterly lack the organisational skills or drive to do so. Glad someone does though! Congrats!

Re: Great stuff

Hey Dan many thanks for taking the time to post some positive feedback as it is muchly appreciated! Yeah I too have walked past the alluring Church Rock many times on the way to Mowing Ward and fancied taking to the seas to have a poke around. All you need is a 2 seat sit-on kayak with 3 people crammed on! And an £11.99 child's dinghy from Amazon... ;-)
Cheers Dave
