Saturday, March 5, 2005... A perfect climbing day in the 'Dax! My brother and I climbed Cascade on snowshoes. Trail conditions were superb. A deep base of snow with sugary "squeeky" surface. Nearly 100% sunshine, 25-30 F temps, and almost no wind, other than the last 300 feet elevation, where it blew pretty fiercely on the exposed peak. Surrreal azure blue sky, 360 view for many, many miles.... great.
We used snowshoes from trailehead to peak without a care. The snow is deep enough that the challenging rocky summer trail conditions are nullified. We were "strolling" up the trail, walking above the tops of all but a handful of the largest rocks/boulders, which we simply stepped around.
