Overview
Classic but long itinerary from the province of Palencia. The landscape is beautifull with some lakes.Time to summit: 4h10min.
Slope: 1220m.
Getting There
*Approach to Cervera de Pisuerga: from Burgos go to Melgar de Fernamental (N-120), after 8km take N-611 to Herrera de Pisuerga. C-627 to Cervera de Pisuerga.*Cardaño de Arriba (1401m): road P-210 between Cervera de Pisuerga and Velilla del Río Carrión for 15 km to crossroad of Cardaño de Abajo and 4km to Cardaño de Arriba.
Route Description
We walk the track before the river in the entry of the village of Cardaño de Arriba. In a curve with a fountain we leave the track across a path to a bridge. We follow the river Lomas to a new track. We go to left ascending to a new bifurcation. We go to right crossing the river in a bridge (1650m). The path ascent to the plains of Col of Campiza (1840m). we leave in left side the lake of Pozo de las Lomas and we walk to a new col (2065m, 2h 30 min) under the south face of peak El Consejo. In this point the best itinerary go ascending this peak but a path to left side under the Agujas de Cardaño exist.After a hard ramp we arrive to the col between Alto de Tío Celestino (2210m) and El Consejo (2394m). We walk bordering the summit of El Consejo to ascent the Alto de Fuentes Carrionas (2445m) a little pre-summit of the nearby Tres Provincias (2496m). From this point the access of Peña Prieta is the same of the other routes.
Essential Gear
Nothing special in summer and fall.In winter and early in spring is necessary the use of crampons and ice-axe in some parts of the route (Tres Provincias, final ridge...)
