Cap de Laubère, 2213m is a modest peak that overlooks the resort of Saint Lary, and forms the landscape of this valley with the unmisseable Pic d'Aret. For this reason, it is a popular hiking destination for half a day.

As its name says, this Cap is rather a cape than a real summit (it lies in the continuity of smaller Pichebrou, and later followed by the Montagne de Consaterre). But this lack if significance is compensated by its allure seen from the valley.

There are two ways to reach this mountain.

- From the village of Ens, many trails climb up the generous northern slope, along the lake Lac de la Coume, or rather closer to the Crete de Cupyeroude, overlooking the Pla d'Arsoué (Lustou trailhread)

- From the entrance of the Rioumajou valley, over Tramezaigues, where, at the level of the first bridge, a marked trail climbs along the Rau de Hitte Longue.

- The continuation of these 2 trails lead to the beautiful and surprisingly unknown three lakes of Consaterre. The most fit will push the exploration to the top of Pic de Thou, highest top of the area (2743) and neighbour of the Lustou (one reason why I did not present it instead... a too close brother)

Many accomodations and campsites in the Aure valley :
http://www.vallee-aure.com/
No known open sherperd hut in the surroundings...
Wildcamping possible, and very nice location at the lakes of Consaterre.

One accommodation is worth mention for large groups of people: La Filature (former spinning mill), in Ancizan, with further information here and here (French). Prices can go as low as 10€ for groups over 10 people. A separate apartment is available too but rates may vary depending on the charges being shared with others or not.
