Red Canyon, then up to Bryce.
Red Canyon is the way to Bryce Canyon when you come in from the west. Link takes you to my pics of Red Canyon.
Highlights of my visit:
On the 27th my wife and I drove the road to Rainbow Point and then stopped at all the viewpoints on the return drive. On the 28th, I managed to snowshoe to two prominence peaks on the rim and get some different views than normally obtained from the viewpoints and I hiked down into the canyon near Wall Street on the trip as well. I've got a lot of pics to sort through but hopefully you'll enjoy the ones I've put up so far.
Visiting Bryce Canyon in wintry conditions is a WOW experience. I found myself saying that word so many times that my wife finally asked me to find a new word to use. Maybe the word awesome would apply but wow worked for me. 34 pics up so far, more to follow in a day or two. Thanks to all who have voted and made comments.
Snowtime is showtime
There isn't a bad season to visit Bryce Canyon but wintertime might just be the best of them all thanks to the snow providing a contrast to the redrock and other colors found in the rock at Bryce Canyon.
I had been wanting to visit Bryce all winter and finally my wife and I were able to get the weather window we were hoping for and so we made the trip south. We had two glorious days to enjoy bluebird weather days with and the first day was spent driving from viewpoint to viewpoint. The second day I spent doing some snowshoe hikes and a hike below the rim. When we left on Monday morning, the weather was starting to deteriorate as a front moved into the area. It won't be the last trip to Bryce I make this year as we plan to head back later on to spend some time near Escalante and make the Hole in the Rock trip part of that visit. Of course, a stop in Bryce beforehand will be in order as there are still things I need to see and do there.
Viewpoints
From Rainbow point, it is worthwhile to stop at all the viewpoints on the way back to the park entrance.
Two of the viewpoints are highlighted thus far: Rainbow Point and Natural
Bridge. More will be forthcoming as I have a chance to review the pics I've taken and reduce them in size.
