Description

The Bishorn is an often visited 4000m peak with 2 summits: West-summit: 4153 m (snow) and east-summit: 4135 m (rock, and also called Pointe Burnaby). The Bishorn is often described as an “easy 4000er”. Together with the Weissmies, Lagginhorn, Breithorn and Allalinhorn he belongs to the so-called “simple 4000er” in Switzerland. With the name “simple 4000er” I am always cautious, because they are not really easy, there are always dangers and difficulties. At the Bishorn makes perhaps the glacier or the altitude some "difficulty". You have to sleep high, at 3256m in the Tracuit hut (Cabane de Tracuit). The Tracuit hut is a beautiful hut high above the Zinal valley. The way to it is long and arduous.

Our Ascent to the Bishorn 4153m:

We stayed overnight in the overcrowded and narrow Tracuit hut 3256m (Cabane de Tracuit). So in the morning, it was hard to get up, i had the feeling of having slept 2 hours on a stone. We starts around 4.30am, it was a beautiful morning, a perfect day with no clouds in the sky. from the Tracuit hut we went to the large Turtmann glacier and we traversed almost the whole glacier, to the vicinity of Point 3544m. Then followed a strenuous ascent over the northwest flank of the Bishorn, up in the col between point 4153m and 4135m. Now it is not far away, one last piece and we arrived on the summit of Bishorn 4153m. The last meters are always the most beautiful, the arrival at the summit a gigantic feeling. on the summit, we made a long pause and enjoy the great view, bevor we went down on the same route.
