Route Description : Way Up

Cross the dam and follow the red cross marks to the waterfall. Higher, you pass near the chalet of the Vosgian Club, Schahling Hut, 750 m (shelter, bivouac possible, stove, wood at your disposal) and you have a nice view over the whole Masevaux valley with the Lakes of Sewen and Alfeld.

The path becomes steeper. At the next cross, don't follow the direct path to the summit but turn right (red rectangle marks) and then left "àà meters further to the Ronde Tête collar.

Here you take the path of the "Tour du Ballon d'Alsace" (blue circle marks). This path crosses the wild north east face of the Ballon d'Alsace, 150 meters under the summit. The rock called "Belvédère Birkzl" provides a wonderful view of the Charbonniers comb and the Haute Bers.

At the Jumenterie follow left the red discs to the large summit plateau. You pass near the Joan of Arc statue before you reach the orientation table of the summit.

Route Description : Way Down

Walk to the Blue Virgin of the Ballon d'Alsace in western direction (5 minutes from the summit) and down to the Ballon farm-inn.

Follow the crest in southern direction to la Chaumière near the ski trail. Here begins the way down to the Alfeld Lake (red disc marks). You cross the ski trails of Grand Langenberg and the road. When you reach the road for the second time, cross the water stram left and turn to the right. You walk back along the Alfeld Lake.
