Yours truly leading pitch 16...

Yours truly leading pitch 16 ( A3+ or A4 ) - the crux pitch for us on the East Face / " Mala Pata " route on the South Tower of Paine. Dave Davies had taken a fall here the day before, so I was elected to finish it ( oh joy )! Our route nails the roof to the right. I believe the " Self Right to Suicide " route aids the roof to the left. Photo by Johnathan Gordon.

Re: Damn.

Be sure to check out the down view I shot from right there. Hey - our climb is complete due to the fact that the Swiss team that did " In The Eye of the Hurricane " joined our route about 2 pitches below this - then followed the same line to the top. Go nail this!

Re: Damn.

I'm not much of an aid climber, but I do have designs on some routes in the Beartooth Mountains next summer, specifically to learn. Any suggestions for a free climber turning to aid?

Re: Damn.

I'd suggest doing several one pitch clean routes to start, it's as much learning to not get tangled and stay organized as anything else. " A4 " bouldering practice with hooks and tiny crap is fun and informative too!
