Jul 5, 2002 long ago!, but I just read it now :) I don't know the difference between wolves and coyotes, do coyotes strike? I even always have problems with the sheep dogs, I never like to see a wolf or a bear in front of me, this year the locals where talking about the wolf and bear strikes of the other nights at the place I wanted to camp on shahalborz which made me change my mind and get back in the dark. by the way I sometimes see a strange creature looking and spring on two legs just like a ganguro on koloonbastak slopes, first my friends mocked me but I showed them the animal and they didn't say a word.
Wolves are a lot larger than coyotes and usually attack as a pack. I would much rather deal with a single mountain lion than a whole pack of wolves.
The worst animal that I have encountered in the mountains so far has been the shepherd dogs in Iran. I climbed Namak Koohsar Peak alone and ran into dogs that semed to be completely mad. I was smart enough to just stand there. I know if I had run away they would have caught me. Had to wait until the shepherd came and got his dogs.
The villagers in Haniz (near Siyalan) kept talking about bears but fortunately we did not see any. I wonder what the animal you mention is. Probably a rodent.
The shepherds bring their sheeps up to 4000m in Iran, I always have problem with these dogs, and I'm not good treating with dogs. the locals say these bears are just a little bigger than a dog but still dangerous, I saw boars (goraz) they are so so enormous ! so many wild animals, but I only feel good about the cat likes.
Oh yes, I forgot wild boars. When we were on the summit of Sootak Koochak, we saw a herd of boars on the snowy slopes below. My guide became very concerned saying these could be very dangerous but they were far away.

WolvesInteresting, I justed climbed Jones Mountain on Saturday and I believe I might have seen two wolves while I was headed up Burns Gulch.

Re: WolvesI sure heard the wolves but I never saw them. Are there wolves in Colorado? I thought they were hunted to extinction.

Re: WolvesThat's the story I'm familiar with, but seeing is often believing....at this point, I'm just glad I saw whatever it is that I saw :).
