"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

Peaceful June DayI caught myself a June cold but I can't let a few coughs and sniffles ruin my summer. My wife and I climbed this in a few hours. Beautiful sunny day with clear views of Mount Evans, Bierstadt, Grays, and Torreys all covered in snow.

Deep SnowA nice mellow peak from bridge creek. However there was knee to thigh deep snow I had to bust through up the final stretch.

Burro TrailBurro Trail to the summit. Nice hike, minus a large deer carcass in the trail! Traversed over to West Blue afterwards. Tough traverse to avoid private property.

nice walkNice park for early spring. Cool days, cold nights. Fewer visitors than when full-blown summer.

Burro Trail from Bridge CreekA brisk winter day was the perfect environment for a 6 month pregnant woman (me!) and a friend to get a little workout in the hills! Great hike and not too tough for a preggo gal!

Burro and Mountain Lion TrailsWas planning on doing Spalding and Gray Wolf but the weather up there wasn't looking very conducive to hiking so I headed to lower ground. And Golden Gate Canyon and Windy Peak it was. Started at Nott Creek and followed the Mountain Lion Trail until I came to the second service road and then headed up the eastern Burro trail. Nice views from the western outlook, but with all the rain and humidity it felt like I was hiking in the Southern Appalachians, not Colorado. Returned via the western Mountain Lion trail.

Snowshoe routeSnow shoed the Burro Trail, which I lost along the way and then was heading cross country up the steep SE slopes. Nice hike though.

Burro Trail from Bridge CreekWe were looking for a nice get-away up a moderate-sized peak that would give us and the dogs plenty of exercise but let us totally zone out (i.e. no navigation required). "Windy Peak" fit the bill for us. The smells of autumn were in the air in the lower reaches of the trail, while the snow-clad high-country was on display from the summit. Hiking partner: Grumpy husband. Dogs: Lady, Bing & Lela.
