Wheeler Peak of

eastern Nevada has many moods! I worked there during the summer of 1990, and got caught in a lightning storm or two. We were putting in trails and maintaining some older ones. I especially like the view from the summit, and that heliograph station is awesome! THANKS!!!

Re: Wheeler Peak of

Thanks for the comments, Larry. Getting caught in a lightning storm is no fun. Aside from the crowds, I thought the Wheeler/GBNP was nice. I remember driving through Ely on the way there, it seemed like a really nice town. I probably wouldn't mind living there. I might be going to do Guadalupe Peak next week or so...will probably be crowds there to remind me why I should steer clear of the NPs.

Re: Yes,

I hear what you're saying. Losing the crowds is what makes the wilderness experience what it is. Ely is a nice place, I know somebody who grew up there. They later moved to Arizona, because Ely gets a fair amount of freezing temps during the winter. I don't blame them ... nice people!!
Have a GOOD time trying to lose those crowds! Take care and be safe! - LARRY
