"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

ThanksYou can only wish there were more people like that, and aspire to be one yourself. Great article. Well written and impressive. This kind of article would be great in Climbing Mag or Snow and Ice or something

Re: ThanksWow, thanks for the kind words. Certainly Muir is the high standard that those who love the wild can aspire to. Don't know that there will ever be another quite like him, though...the right man at the right time for certain!

Good stuffThanks for that great posting. After my first visit to Yosemite this year and the Ken Burns Doc. This was a perfect read for me!

Re: Good stuffAwesome, thanks for stopping by. It kills me that I can't get out to Yosemite any time soon...especially after a lengthy study on Muir!

A wonderful readVery well written and I really liked the way you have added the quotes to the main text. The article also revealed things I didn't know about Muir. Very interesting.

Re: A wonderful readThanks so much. I felt at times I was just regurgitating info folks already knew so I'm glad to hear you found some fresh stuff!

Well doneI am a professional historian and I would give your short concise piece on Muir and "A." Were you inspired to write this after watching Ken Burns documentary on the Parks?

Re: Well doneWow, thanks...I can always use another 'A'! Actually, I simply enjoy writing history pieces and thought a short study on Muir was overdue on SummitPost. It's a bit intimidating writing on someone whom you respect as much as I do Muir. I'm quite pleased it's been so well received.

Awesome ContributionGreat work! Thanks for sharing. I loved reading your article and really learned a lot. I had no idea Muir traveled so extensively. I also like how you used other people's photos. Makes it feel like a communal work of art.
