Wahatis Drive Up  Sucess!

I drove up the Wildlife Viewing access road from SR 24, just east of the big bend in the Columbia. Followed the ridge road to the summit. All gates were open and unsigned, and the road was passable for cars until within 1/2 mile of the summit.

Use a Rental Car  Sucess!

I drove to this lovely spot on a whim while heading to the Tri-Cities. I happebed to be in a rental car and enjoyed the opportunity to attack the road with reckless abandon. Although I got to the summit just in time for sunset pictures, my favorite shot was of the car mud-caked tires to roof.

Summited in 4 wheel drive  Sucess!

It was bitterly cold and had been snowing on and off, but the summit was quite accessible in 4 low this cold december day. Drove up alongside the summit boulder, jumped out and stood atop that forlorn rock, then jumped back in the wrangler and drove back to Pasco.

Wahatis  Sucess!

I think I may have hiked the road or something but I can't really remember.

On a cold winter's day  Sucess!

Bob Bolton and I didn't take the road from the south but went up from the north on a pole line jeep track but since that didn't take us to the summit, we hiked about a mile and several hundred feet to get a wintry blast for our efforts. Nice views since it was a clear crisp day.

Re: On a cold winter's day

Before I left home on the trip, I noticed on a map that an old road seemed to lead from the NNW, starting from near Royal City. Thankfully, I did not need to put in the guesswork that you guys did, but I applaud your efforts nonetheless. I also saw an old (gated) road apparently leading directly north from Highway 24 towards the summit (or just west of it), but that option would also require some extra effort.

Great Views!  Sucess!

This successful summit occurred between two other WA CoGPPs that day... faraway Indian Rock, and nearby Taunton BM (which is also within the Saddle Mountains). The summit is a little drab, but the views are absolutely breathtaking... especially to the north and south.
