Blue Lake and Loop HikeThat's about the same loop we did, but we didn't include Shelly Baldy.
Is there a road to Blue Lake now? I vaguely remember that the trail was an old road(?), but I don't think it had been used by vehicles for many years? I think it was 1996? The trails weren't distinct back then either.
At one time I was going to make a route page for the loop, but wasn't sure how much things have changed.

Re: Blue Lake and Loop HikeWe noticed a very distinct road (not shown on our map) leaving the saddle SSE of Belknap and heading down hill(n38.40316 w112.39858) and wondered where it went. Then when we were descending Baldy, we noticed big switchbacks across the hillside in that direction. At the bottom of the drainage in the Blue Lake area we came across it and walked on it a short distance to Blue Lake. It kept on going, but we turned off of it.
It looked well maintained at the top, but down by Blue Lake, there were a few trees across it, but it was very distinct.

Re: Wonderful areaI saw your TR before our trip and found it very useful. I found it through a link from your log. I just relooked at it and yes, 2011 was a big snow year. I love your picture of Blue Lake with Belknap in the background. We did not go to that end of the lake. I had forgotten all about the dentrites, as I must not have taken a picture of them. I've never seen them any place else. We didn't see anyone all day either. We also went down to that area in April 2013 and did Holly and City Creek on snow, much easier going.
