GeologyWow. I'm not an expert on the geology of that area but this image sure makes it look like this stone is calcium carbonate or crystalized calcium, i.e., marble. There are quite a few white marble deposites through out the Sierra Nevada but I can't say that I have ever heard that Crystal Crag is one of them. Is this thing really quartz?

Re: GeologyQuartzite can look similar to white marble but it's usually harder and more translucent. This rock on Crystal Crag is quartzite, not marble.
