Clogwyn Du`r Arddu

Clogwyn Du`r Arddu

These cliffs `Clogwyn Du`r Arddu` are possibly the most famous rock climbing cliffs in the UK, steeped in history and legend and famous for it`s hard rock climbing, one route stands out above all the others namely `The Indian Face` climbed in 1986 by Johny Dawes, the route is graded at E9 6c. Here is a very short extract from the first ascent Hundered foot up, above the last gear, I`m faced with the first of the hardest moves, my anxiety has made me enter the moves before reflection and the rock is all in the wrong place. My body fels heavy and lumpy. I slapped out right, a move that should be static, and was comitted to the crux; a precarious mantel onto a rounded boss. If I fell off this move the gear would rip as it was off to the left and the gear was only in downward-pulling placements. Once on this you can rest and clip the tied-off RURP, which is most comforting. n.b - Only two ascent have been made on this route since !
