It is actuallyClifton Gorge near Yellow Springs Ohio not too far east of Wright-Patterson Airforce Base. Clifton is a limestone gorge whereas the Hocking Hills is carved from sandstone.

I didn't know thestuff was around either, but that's probably because I've

Hocking HillsI assumed it was named after some early settler, but such is not the case. Hocking County is a contraction of HockHocking- a Delaware word meaning bottle neck referring to the appearance of the Hocking River at the falls. The first settler appears to have been one Christian Eby who set up a mill on Queer Creek just a bit southwest of my topozone map center. A paper on the 114 hectare "Deep Woods" (216 acres) lists Christian Westenhaven as a likely earlier settler or visitor to the area in 1798. Hocking County was founded 31 March, 1816
