A view down one of the...

A view down one of the western gullies of the Matterhorn. The "slabby" rock looks simple enough to climb but it is widely known to be notoriously crumbly. In fact, the West Face has been climbed only once because of this. It's some kind of limestone (complete with imbedded fossils). You can literally destroy the rock with a hefty boot stomp.
