Makalu from French Camp

Makalu from French Camp (approx 16,700 ft / 5100 meters). Evening light shines on the southwestern slopes of the great peak. The foreground is an ice-covered stream flowing on the moraine of the Barun Glacier. A 2 stop graduated neutral density filter was used to compensate for the contrast in lighting between the sunny peak and icy shadow.

The contrast

between the light and the shade is truly remarkable.

Thanks very much, appreciate the comment. This is scanned from a slide and I should redo that, I've improved my scanning technique these days. This is an amazing area!
