Rockwell Variation approach...

Rockwell Variation approach to Mt. Russell's East Ridge. While there is still a great deal of tedious sand and talus leading up to the chute, it is better than the longer slog up from Clyde Meadow. Aug 24, 2002

thanks for the tip

I'm heading there this June and this variation seems much more appealing!

Nice Route Picture

I wish I had seen this route photo a few weeks ago before attempting Mount Russel. Gimpilator and I came up a different variation which involved a repel on the way down. Anyways, good to know about this route. Thanks for drawing this up.

Better Chute

We climbed the chute and wall before the normal chute pictured here. It gets you out of the sand sooner and the wall at the top of the chute is a fun class 3/4 climb. It looks class 5 from a distance.
This is the chute that in most guidebooks etc. labelled as: don't climb this chute.
