View to Salet and Funtenseetauern from the St. Bartholomä peninsula

View to Salet, at the very southern tip of the Königssee, and above, in the sunlight, the Funtenseetauern (2579m). Due to the extreme depth and narrowness of that section of the fjord-like valley of the Königssee, Salet and the little lake behind it named Obersee don't get any sunlight at all for at least five months every year during winter. The area of the Kärlingerhaus hut, which is halfway between Salet and the summit of the Funtenseetauern and situated next to a tiny mountain lake on 1664 meters, is known as the coldest spot in the entire country of Germany. There have been winters in which -45 degrees Celsius were measured there!
