Thanks desainme for visiting!!! Fires will subside, I just hope that damage will not be too severe. Velebit is 150km long (100 miles). I think fires would have to rage for year to swalow all the forests. But the sad thing is that this was one of the most beautiful places. Right now I feel like I never want to go there again to preserve image of beauty in my head but on the other side I will probably go as soon as possible to check the damage myself. I'll be shocked for sure.
No Picea Omorika on Velebit, just Picea Abies. On Velebit most dominant tree is Beech, than come Spruce, Fir & Pine. On seaboard side, first 700-900m above sea, most dominant species are Oak & Hornbeam.
Haha Brian, that was good one :-) Thanks!!! I love nature, especially mountains. I guess we all have THE special ONE in our hearts. That is Velebit for me.
Is this the best page on SP? Certainly, it is the one most lovingly crafted. If I am very lucky I may see this Velebit with my own eyes one day. Thank you.
Phew. This could be a whole website on it's own! Very beautiful pictures and a giant amount of information. You certainly show the beauty of Croatian mountains to the world!
Thanks rbi, very much! Yes, this corner of the world is well known for beautiful sea but I don’t think many know that Croatia has mountains too. Many of them rise straight from the sea like Velebit and Biokovo which is perfect combination. Sea bellow is strewn with islands, it is really beautiful. You can hike, climb, ride a bike, paraglide & swim, all in one day. There are many of your fellow Dutch here during summer. I hope you’ll visit some day too.
I would have gave you a ten stars rating if it would be possible. This is the most beautiful page on this site. Congratulation. Your photos are amazing. It really makes me want to go in Croatia to see those mountains!

Untitled CommentNot enough info here. You need to include the names of everyone who's ever climbed it as well as their personal history too. ;- )
Seriously though, what a page. Wow! You really love this mountain. Lots of hard work on your part on this one. Very cool.

Untitled CommentHvala Sven!
