From Montana, rafted in on an iceberg thousands of years ago and dropped onto a slope on Rattlesnake Mtn, outside of Richland Washington. See the comment I've made below for more information on why this is an interesting geologic find. These erratics are scattered around the area where i live and open the door to why granite boulders are found in an area of basalt geology. Red Mtn is in the background and Richland is beyond Red Mtn.

Carried in on an iceberg

This lonely rock is a granitic boulder, found in an area of basalt of south eastern washington. It was carried to the area on an ice berg when an ice dam in montana broke and flooded this area of washington. Read more about it HERE.
This is well documented in a book called
"On the trail of the Ice Age floods" by Bruce Bjornstad.

Re: Carried in on an iceberg

It is pretty amazing. Thanks for the vote and the interest. I just came back a few minutes ago from trying to find a way to a 100 ton erratic granite boulder that is afew miles from my house. It is on private property though.
