Urus Central from the trail next to Laguna Ishinca

Urus Central from the trail next to Laguna Ishinca

A few hours ago, on my way up, it was still too dark to see much of Urus. But on the way down I had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, and especially have a good look at Urus Central. Two days before we had tried to climb it, without having been able to find information about the routes, or even about the true summit. As this photo shows, Urus Central is a ridge, and the summit is clearly the one on the left. However, as clear as that may be from a distance, when we were at the base of the mountain, looking up, we couldn't decide whether the true summit was at the left or at the right end of the summit ridge. Now, the easiest way up that we could see was in the middle, so that's where we started climbing. We made it to the summit ridge. From there, we still couldn't say for sure which was the true summit, but we were running out of time anyway. Yesterday, we rested. Today, my partner was still recovering, but I wanted to climb Ishinca, and so I went alone. 26 July 2011.
