Thanks for the report, Rich! The pics almost look better than my memories. It's so amazing looking southwest from there over endless golden granite. How sweet to be up on the Spire on such a warm, calm day before the winter weather hits.

I must jest with you a little about your statement that we lounged for nearly an hour on the summit -- this may be evidence that the altitude had already gotten to you at that point! I remember a fairly clearheaded 20, maybe 30 minutes up there, and making a conscious effort to first engage in perceptible lounging but then clear out before too long, as I was feeling quite conscious of our certainty of having to finish the return trail in the dark.

But you had a watch on and I didn't... I'm probably the one with the faulty memory! Except, I'm also pretty sure that we spent 5 minutes looking at the reflections in that lake, not 15...

Eric, pics are always better than the memories. Isn't that the definition of type II fun? And I don't quibble with the times, although I remember we stopped at the end of the lake, and then again halfway through just to pause and admire that incredible beauty. Thanks again for leading the charge. And when I said you probably could've done it in five hours, that's wrong too. Probably only three :-)

Three, no way! That reminds me of the time I was feeling good about reaching the summit of Temple Crag via the north fork trial and Venusian Blind in a short time, to find a log entry by Urmas showing he'd made the same one-way trip in something like 2 hours less.

Anyway, my memory is hardly a reliable reference unit.

You and Joe made a really great team for the day.
