In 1998, one had the ability to pre-place food in several large covered containers that were placed beside the hut. In late September or so, the NPS would allow you to pre-place the food in these canisters to be used when you visited the hut in the winter. I hope this service is still available. The approach from Lee Vining is a bit strenuous as a one day ski in, this food cache really helped. Miguel Carmona and I visited the hut while skiing to Cathedral Peak to climb the SE Buttress in winter. The hut is marvelous and the ski/climb trip was too.

no problem!Thanks Alois, the hut is awesome! We had the ability to do that this year as well, the food cache is the way to go for sure. Plan ahead! haha.
