From Croatian side  Sucess!

Monotonous and dull approach, leading over the 3,5 hours of macadam road walking. Final ascent saves the path, steep and beautiful. All the boredom of the approach was forgotten when the northern face of Troglav revealed itself in its dominance. Perhaps in winter conditions this would be a more interesting hike, but for the dry conditions I recommend going with 4x4 vehicle as far as possible. Unless, of course, you fancy a total of 7 hours of macadam walking in a day.

Route Climbed: Sajkovici - eastern ridge - Troglav Date Climbed: January 8th 2006  Sucess!

We were blessed with a clear and perfect winter day. Albeit the air temperature was well below zero, absence of the wind kept us warm throughout the climb. Visibility was excellent, 1,5 meters deep snow was hard-packed beneath the 10 cm layer of a fresh one. Crampons and ice-ax were obligatory above 1500 meters, especially when climbing via Zdrilo, a very steep approach to the eastern part of Troglav's ridge. The ridge itself is very wide and pleasant to walk on, going almost in a straight line for 20 minutes towards Troglav, with altitude deviations no higher than 15 meters. The view from the summit is something unforgettable on a crisp, clear days like this one. Due to the excellent climbing conditions, total time required for reaching the summit was 4h30min.
