"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

Family excursionAn easy hike on your own becomes a bit more challenging with 5, 3, and 1 yo in tow. We actually got the Britax all the way to the top, though the roots near the end are maddening. 5yo made the entire hike unassisted, which was pretty good I think.

Foggy and coldLate afternoon hike. Fall arrived quickly I think. About 40 degrees and breezy and overcast. My second tri-state monument I think

Great Little MonumentHit this one the same day as our Black Mountain visit (Kentucky HP). Easy to find, well marked trails. The 3-state pavilion is a gem; standing in "the spot" cool just like the 4-corners out west.

Civil War TourClimbed Tri-State Peak (and Ft. Foote along the way) and then also took the trail from the gap to Ft. McCook and Ft. Lyon, then over the ridge and down Lewis Hollow. Got an education in the Civil War struggle over Cumberland Gap.

Late WinterHiked to the summit after an afternoon on the Ridge Trail atop Cumberland Mountain. Not bad, shorter than I expected from the saddle of the gap.

Sweating in JanuaryAfter summitting Black Mountain drove on down to Cumberland Gap NHP for some hiking.
Followed the trail from the Iron Furnace parking area.
What a difference, from 18 F to 30 F, was sweating since I wore the same jacket for both ascents.

In Three States At OnceHiked to the top of Tri-State Peak by the usual route. It was a hot and muggy day. It was a very educational hike.
