Sign clearly marked at end gate that says - you will be taken in front of a federal magistrate and fined $1000 and or imprisoned for 12 months or both.
My contention is that hiking is not trespassing. No one should be able to close down such a beautiful summit-view.
I researched this access issue myself because I couldn't find even one mention of anyone attempting to climb this peak legally, or even attempting to get a permit, on more than one climbing site. I was surprised at what I found.
Yeah, you were shut down because you didn't bother to apply for a permit through the land owners. Which, as it turns out, is actually not that hard to do as I found out as of today. A couple of emails was all it took. The Santa Rosa tribe, aka. the landowners, have a facebook page. Anyone can go to their page and get the instructions on applying for the permit through the contact us/messenger app on their facebook page.. Fees are $40 for a one day permit, or $40 per day for multiple day outings. Overnight stays are not allowed inside the reservation boundaries itself.
Anyone can climb Toro Peak. Legally and with consent of the owners. You definitely should update this page to reflect this so others don't make the same mistake you did..
To encourage trespassing is a recipe for future disasters in regards to accessibility, especially when there are legal options for access already in place.
How and why this subject hasn't been addressed beforehand completely bewilders me. Laziness I guess. And not a very good reflection on the climbers here who obviously know better.
No Scott, but I do think the page should updated. When people come here for climbing beta and then see almost everyone has climbed this summit illegally, they would naturally assume they have to do the same thing. Let's help them out and give them a legal option.

Re: No TrespassingThere seems to be no good reason to close the peak. One wonders what the reasons may be. Thank you for the updated information.
