Sounds like a fine adventure, having to find the new route!
When I finally managed to climb Cotopaxi, about two weeks after you did, and, coincidentally, also on my third attempt, I simply had to follow the many tracks by other parties, both from the previous day and from those that were ahead of me. I guess that it was still the same route that the two of you had pioneered.
The route, as I found it, weaved quite elaborately through the maze of crevasses. Without a trail, I wouldn't have stood a chance to find a way through that labyrinth in time - then again, without a trail, I wouldn't have climbed at all that day because I was alone.
The trail even went down substantially a few of times to skirt around crevasses that were too wide to jump. I couldn't tell which one would have been the 'big crevasse'. There were a few candidates, but the trail weaved around all of them. Thanks for the trail blazing!
As I got to the steep gully not far below the summit, there was just one other group climbing it, so I hardly had to wait for my turn - when I climbed down later, it had really turned into a bottleneck with a lot of parties waiting for their turn to go up.
