The view to the northeast...

The view to the northeast from the north bowl of Hard Butte. The dark peak at upper center is Lava Butte, which is unique because it represents the eastern limits of the Grand Ronde flow basalts that dominate southeast WA and adjacent OR and ID. Lava at these elevations is also unusual in this part of the Northwest. Sept. 2005
