Pk 9440+Peak 9440+ has a name on a couple of my maps. They call it Hidden Peak. Its aptly named because from most places in the Wallowa valley its hidden behind East Peak. Most my maps have East Peak listed at 9400.

Re: Pk 9440+I thought I had better actually check these things rather than just go on memory. Guess my information was not off my maps, but was from Fred Barstad's book, "Hiking Oregon's Eagle Cap wilderness". He lists Hidden Peak at 9,495 and East Peak at 9,400. Not sure how reliable the information is but thats all I have found so far.

Re: Pk 9440+I have Barstad's book somewhere in a box. I could dig it out but you've done the legwork on that end. My initial elevations (9,360+ for East Peak and 9,440+ for "Hidden Peak") were based on Topozone/USGS. Also Howbert's Top 100 list give no name for it, official or otherwise. He's usually pretty good at supplying unofficial names. Not that I expected it to, but "Hidden Peak" does not come up on the USGS query tool. Of note, the query tool shows 8,080 ft for East Peak. Clearly this is an error. I'll send them a correction note.
I like the name Hidden Peak. Barstad's book is pretty detailed and he's pretty knowledgeable about the Wallowas. He probably knows what he's talking about. Smoot's book on the Cascade volcanoes on the other hand...
