The Vieja Alta valley as seen...

The Vieja Alta valley as seen from our route towards Camp 1 on the north side of Aconcagua. Our base camp was located in this valley at approximately 12,300 ft and can barely be seen at bottom center. The remoteness of this base camp stands in stark contrast to the hectic scene we encountered at Plaza de Mulas on our descent (see Plaza de Mulas photo).
