Correction?I love Harney Peak and have made the trip to the summit numerous times from my youth to adulthood and accompanying my own sons. But HP is not the highest peak east of the Rockies and west of the Pyrenees. According to reliable published information, that distinction belongs to Pico, on the tiny Azorean archipelago (Portuguese) island of the same name, located in the north Atlantic Ocean, some 1,000 miles west of Lisbon, Portugal. Pico is very impressive, rising from its base, virtually at sea level, to a height of 2,351 meters compared to Harney at 2,207 meters.
