The North Couloir Avalanche

The North Couloir Avalanche

September 5th, 2009 - The North Couloir. You can see the obvious signs of the 4 ft deep avalanche that scoured the couloir down to an alpine ice bed layer and clear the berghscrund down to ice. Note also the left fork has been separated from the main couloir by a narrow rock band as the snow melted out. This is typical by July or so. The section is short and broken so is probably still better to climb through than traversing from the top of the right variation.
