Beautiful article!

Kugy is one of my favourite alpinists and was also a great writer. His exploits were unbeliavable for those years, he was a true pioneer. And how he loved the Julian Alps! His pages about Skrlatica, Triglav, Jalovec, Jof Fuart or Jof di Montasio are so touching...

Re: Beautiful article!

For me, he is the greatest mountain lover. Definitively his ascent were and are amazing for this time. Yes, his big love were Julian Alps.

Cheers!

Very interesting page

It's very well done, that you have started with a new series dealing with the life and work of important alpinists with famous Kugy. I immensely admire his exploits which even by today's standards appear almost unbelievable.
My compliments and let you continue that way.
Cheers, Andrej

Re: Very interesting page

Thanks, Andrej! Yes before we start with our project I write something about Kugy. I was writing Avcin`s book and I was impressed by the list of Kugy`s ascents in the book. So I have to write something about Kugy. :)

Cheers!

Arbeit-Musik-Berge

I inherited this book from my dad and read it - what an impressive man and life he lead! I hope to climb in those mountains some time. Nice job on the page.

Man of the World

So many years ago Kugy was already a man whose spirit was rising across all European borders of that time. His lyrics is unprecedented even today. He was a good, very good climber, a visionary and a very honest man. Nobody ever rised the image of poor ordinary people - his guides from Trenta, Valbruna, Raccolana, Courmayeur,... - so high, their loyalty, courage and skills. Although he considered himself a German, his mother was a Slovenian and some derive also his family name from a Slovenian root, finally he also understood Slovenian. And to mention also his third passion - it was music. With minor supplements we could agree with Kugy that unsurpassable is the music of Bach, Mozart and Palestrina.

Re: It seems to me

He really? I was looking through the dictionary the best word for him and in many possibilities I chose this one. I do not know which book is this.

Enlightening

Thank you for writing this article. I especially enjoyed the excerpt under the title 'Scabiosa Trenta.' Brought a tear to my eye... Kugy wrote this with such emotion. Looking forward to furthering my knowledge about him and the area he loved so much.
