What a route!

And what a great write up and photos - thanks for sharing it.
In 1986 I spent 2 nights camped on the frontier ridge close to the old Trident Hut waiting for a weather opportunity to do this climb, but it wasn't to be. It would be well beyond me now.
I was in the vicinity a few weeks before you though - descending from a bivvy on Mont Blanc summit with rgg, down the '3 Monts'... and I recognise that horrible crevasse! I was so tired after 2 long days plus nights without sleep that I managed to jump into it instead of across it... and then like you I didn't enjoy the final grind back up to the Midi!
Did you get to do the Rocheforte Traverse? I shall look forward to the TR if you did.
Best wishes, Mark

Re: What a route!

Thanks Mark, that is cool that you were up that way too...I can't imagine what that crevasses crossing must have been like by September?!? I haven't done the Rocheforte Traverse yet, but I would like to, and if all the cards are right, to continue on to the Grande Jorasses summit after a bivy. Happily there is plenty of time...one of these years! Hopefully see you out there sometime for a starry, pre-dawn start!

Re: Superb!

Thanks, it's a while ago now, but wow, what a fun day. There is no better feeling than the moment when dawn breaks and you are a) on your route properly, and b) safe, warm, dry enough, and c) the sky is clear and your way is straight ahead.
