The east face of Aconcagua....

The east face of Aconcagua. This photo was taken about half way between Base camp and Camp 1 on the Polish Side. The Polish glacier descends from the summit down to the right all the way behind the Gendarme at the far right. The English or Argentine route is straight ahead through the glacier at the foot of the mountain. Then up to the left through the three steps of snow fields. Really rotten rock is the word here. Then it follows the skyline ridge to the right all the way to the summit. It is called the English route because it was first attempted by the Brits. They did not succeed though. A team of Argentines did however, hence the twin names. The Argentine route somehow seems more approprate. Who is that ugly guy in the red t-shirt? William Marler, December 10, 2001.
