The "Cloud" that eventually...

The "Cloud" that eventually chased us off of the summit just kept getting bigger and bigger but yet, it had a beauty all of its own. Nevertheless, I did keep an eye on it as I hurried for the summit. July 3, 2004

Nice Clouds!

Great shot of the forming mass. I personally love clouds and don't mind the rain. But I do draw the line at thunder and lightening on summits.

Re: Nice Clouds!

Thanks for the compliment. This was an incredible cloud and it wasn't like anything I'd ever seen before as it just seemed to form off the flank of Shasta and it just kept getting bigger and bigger. Actually, it was pretty neat (in retrospect)

Very nice

Great shot Dean. As we drove down I-5 that morning I watched those things grow. We were sitting in a caffe in down town Mt. Shasta and you could actually see those clouds rising up and swallowing the top of the mountain. I actullay said to Shelby, "Well if Dean and Bob are up there they must have a great view of those clouds from above."

Re: Very nice

Thanks Tom, it'd be cool if you had a picture of that from below. Probably no such luck. Here's the full story on our climb, as slightly dramatized by myself. ; ))

Re: Very nice

Sorry Dean. I didn't break out the camera until the clouds completely overtook the mountain. Wish I would have though.

Scary

Hey Dean,

That's an awesome picture! Must've been scary at the same time. If hell breaks lose at 14k...

Re: Scary

Thanks for the comment on the picture. A ranger chased everyone else off the peak just after we got to the summit. The electrical storm never materialized but he was taking no chances. I felt bad for those who almost made the summit but were turned back. Still, had it turned into an electrical storm......

Re: dynamic...

Thank you for your comments. It was indeed a cloud that we were worried about. The ranger turned everyone back just after we had achieved the summit as he was worried about an electrical storm (as were we).
