Notice the flowers in the lower right hand corner. These are from a ceremony held earlier in the week honoring those that lost their lives here 1 year ago. Unfortunately, people haven't learned from this. I saw several partities roped up using some string and others using static line, while placing no protection. Why tie yourself together on a steep icy slope if one slip could result in all of you being dragged into the Bergshrund. Beginners should be placing pickets or screws if they feel unsure on a 35 degree slope.
