The Baker plateau from the...

The Baker plateau from the summit knob on June 25, 2000. I stopped counting people at 200! Nope, no solitude on this day. Funny sight: I saw one guy wearing golf shoes for traction! He had gators on over the top, making him look like a gangster wearing spatz over dress shoes. What a gaper!

Baker more popular than Glacier?

About the same height aren't they?

Re: Baker more popular than Glacier?

Baker is way more popular than Glacier. Maybe 10-20 times as many visitors to Baker compared to Glacier. Baker is fairly easy to get to and also easy to see from the Puget Sound, thus compelling people to climb it (you know, you're typical volcanobaggers). Glacier, on the other hand, is remote and takes longer to approach (generally). Also, due to the Oct. 20 rainstorm, two of the approach roads have been washed out. The most often used route to Glacier (the one to Boulder Basin) is now in disarray because the rainstorm obliterated the trail. Where the trail used to be is now steep bluff because the river supposedly ate away at the bank.
