Using the bus, I did not start before 11 am on a stormy but otherwise excellent day.
No rangers beyond the jeep tracks, very few people, most of them freezing bitterly. Funny (dancing more than) walking on the icy trail above the refuge. Alone with the sulphur smell on the summit. Incredible.
And then rushing back down for the bus. What a day!

Route Climbed: South East from base Date Climbed: Feb 1996Walked up to the Hut in one day (At that time there was no permit
necessary if you climbed by foot all the way.) and after a cold night
(no sleeping bag, door open and blocked by snow, snow in room and bunkbeds)
continued to the top in the dark of the next Morning.
Incredible experience to see the sun rise and the shadow of Teide lay over
Gomera: awesome !
