From Big PassWe climbed Tangent, then Race Benchmark. Camped nearby, then next morning walked across mud flats to Dolphin Island. Race Benchmark has better views than Tangent and is a more scenic hike.
We came in from the North. Entire route was fine for a passenger car. Last 3 miles to Big Pass are bumpy only because of bulldozer tread-tracks on road surface. This area burned extensively in summer 2019, and you’ll see (and hike across) bulldozed firebreaks as a result.

TangentCold, cloudy, and snow on the ground. Beautiful area. Also did 6485, Deadman Knoll, and Broom Mountain.

Tangent from Big PassNice and remote hike. Saw 3 big Gopher Snakes, but no rattlers. From the climbers log on the summit it looks like only a couple people make the hike a year.

WindyI wanted to visit this peak and mountain range for a few years and figured January was as good of a time as any. Beautiful day once above the inversion fog. Very windy (and cold) on top.

Big PassI went to Tangent Peak on a holiday weekend. I didn’t see anyone else out there. It was a hot day but the hike is short. Great view of the northern Great Salt Lake. This is a really neat desolate area.

From Big PassHad Greg and Kadee as companions. A great day and great companions. Nice to have two vehicles out there as a breakdown was not an option. Despite the isolation, this area has a lot of beauty and the views from the summit were outstanding.
