Re: Perch Tick ListWill try Astro E. next time we get a chance before this one. Both look like incredible climbs though and this pitch looks crazy wild!!

Re: Perch Tick ListA friend of mine who lost his sense of self preservation in a ground fall a few years ago (can still do calculus, but not simple math) just climbed Astro Elephant. He's a solid 5.11 trad leader and they got spanked. He thought it was weird and runout for a 5.11. That Beckey line looks pretty good.

Re: Perch Tick ListWhen you say "just", wondering how recently - whether it's the same guys we met there. We ran into a group of climbers from OR while there last weekend. Guys who have put up FA's all over PNW and are just solid climbers with decades of experience under their belts. Their comments match what your friends said. They too told us that it was a BIG sandbag at 5.10- (rating given by online topo). Sh.. rated 5.8 on topo felt 10a-ish and the crux was a runout 10b/c face.....Astro was what I was hoping for on this trip but frankly they scared me out of doing it. Sunrise was plenty hard and only half as long (with no routefinding which is another issue on Astro as well!!) - still took us an embarassing amount of time to get up it (not clean either!!!). To make long story short, these are some badass old, school ratings IMHO!
It'll be a while before I work up the skill/ba**s for Astro...
PS Beckey line DOES look incredible (lotta aid for me)!!
